What is Atomic Agent?
Atomic Agent is a local-first AI agent runtime that runs models on your machine and stores sessions on disk. It uses llama.cpp to serve local models and GBNF grammars to enforce structurally valid tool calls. A KV-cache reduces repeated computation across steps, keeping iterative workflows fast and efficient.
The runtime drives real tools—browser, shell, and file operations—in parallel and pauses for approvals on risky actions. A SQLite-backed memory and the Model Context Protocol enable persistent recall and external tool integrations.
Workflows include file organization, scheduled monitoring, repo triage, and research automation with cited notes. Distributed as open-source under the MIT license, it can run offline or connect to cloud models if configured.

Atomic Agent use cases
-
Process sensitive company documents locally using Atomic Agent's local-first runtime to run offline models on your machine for extraction, summarization and redaction; enforce GBNF-validated structured tool calls to safely drive file and shell tools with human approvals, persist sessions in SQLite for auditability, and use iterative caching to avoid repeated computation
-
Build reproducible data-science and web-scraping pipelines with Atomic Agent by orchestrating parallel model tasks and browser/file tools under step-by-step human-in-the-loop approvals; rely on structured-call validation for consistent tool outputs, store session state in SQLite for versioned runs, and cache intermediate results so experiments are fast and repeatable even offline
-
Automate developer workflows—code generation, testing, and deployment—locally with Atomic Agent, leveraging GBNF-enforced tool calls to prevent unsafe shell commands while driving editors, CLI and browser tasks with approval flows; maintain persistent local memory across sessions, cache build/test artifacts for quicker iteration, and switch between offline or cloud models as needed
