The Workflow
8 steps · click a step number to mark it done
Open Clipstudio and have it ready before you start
Upload your rough sketch image onto a new canvas and name the layer "Sketch"
Flip the canvas horizontally, then flip back to spot any proportion or anatomy issues
Lower the Sketch layer opacity to about 30%, create a new layer above it for line art, and adjust brush pressure settings for smooth strokes
Set the brush color to transparent and use it as an eraser to clean stray line strokes while keeping brush texture
Add a clipping layer beneath the line art, lock transparent pixels, and paint base colors; avoid pure white and pure black, using near‑white/near‑black tones instead
Create a layer set to Multiply for shadows and another set to Overlay for highlights; paint shading and mood, then fine‑tune each layer’s opacity
Duplicate the line art layer, apply Gaussian Blur, lower its opacity, and blend it with the original line art to achieve a soft, dreamy line effect
Select the completed artwork, use Expand Selection by 10‑15 px, fill the expanded area on a new layer below with a complementary color to create a border, then merge and export as PNG
