Open Magicschool.ai and have it ready before you start
Select the Rubric Generator tool from the MagicSchool.ai dashboard
Choose the grade level (e.g., Fifth Grade) and set the rating scale (e.g., 5‑point)
Enter the assignment description, such as "Students write an argumentative essay on allowing cell phones in school"
Upload the state standards PDF (e.g., South Carolina English Language Arts standards) to link the rubric to official criteria
Click Generate to let the AI create a draft rubric aligned with the uploaded standards
Use the built‑in editor to add or modify columns, for example a "Teacher Comments" column or adjust language for student self‑reflection
If needed, click the Translate button to produce a version in another language for ESL students
Export the finished rubric to Google Docs or Microsoft Word, or click Read Aloud to preview the content
Save the rubric in your MagicSchool.ai library for future reuse or sharing with students
